About Me

In 20 years of providing therapy, I have practiced in a variety of settings with diverse populations and clinical issues. My background includes counselling suicidal and bereaved clients (Vancouver Coastal Health); young adults and mature students (University of Calgary Counselling Centre); and adolescents as a school counsellor (Richmond School District). I have been in private practice for over 12 years in Vancouver and Victoria.

For a significant part of my career, I was a full-time Professor in the Counselling Psychology programs at the University of Victoria

(2010-2019) and Simon Fraser University in Vancouver (2005-2010).

I taught Master's-level counselling courses in clinical skills and interventions; counselling ethics; diversity, culture, and counselling; and career counselling. I also provided clinical supervision to graduate students, and oversaw practicum and internship placements.

Now in full-time private practice, I regularly read the academic literature to keep current with the research, best practices, and new

developments in the field. I have a special interest and ongoing training in trauma, EMDR therapy, and dissociative disorders. I am an EMDR Certified Therapist with EMDR International Association and a member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. I am also trained in Flash Technique developed by Dr. Phillip Manfield.

Both my Master's (UBC) and Doctoral (UCalgary) degrees were earned from well-respected Canadian Counselling Psychology programs (only five such doctoral programs exist in Canada). I have in-depth doctoral-level clinical course work in Counselling Psychology, an 8-month doctoral level practicum, and an additional 1600 hour pre-doctoral internship with supervision from both clinical and counselling psychologists. With this educational background and intense supervised practice, I became a Registered Psychologist #1690 with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia after passing the Examination of Professional Practice of Psychology (EPPP) from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB), as well as the jurisprudence and oral clinical exams through the College of Psychologists of BC.
