About Me

I am a registered psychologist with over 20 years of experience providing therapy. I have practiced in a variety of settings with diverse populations and clinical issues. My background includes counselling suicidal and bereaved clients (Vancouver Coastal Health); young adults and mature students (University of Calgary Counselling Centre); and adolescents as a school counsellor (Richmond School District). I have been in private practice since 2006. In recent years, I most commonly work with trauma including PTSD; complex trauma; historical childhood abuse and neglect; sexualized violence; deployment and other military/first responder trauma; and medical or accident trauma.

For a significant part of my career, I was a full-time Professor in the Counselling Psychology programs at the University of Victoria (2010-2019) and Simon Fraser University in Vancouver (2005-2010). I taught Master's-level counselling courses in clinical skills and interventions; counselling ethics; diversity, culture, and counselling; and career counselling. I also provided clinical supervision to graduate students, and oversaw practicum and internship placements.

Now in full-time private practice, I read the academic literature to keep current with the research, best practices, and new developments in the field. I have a special interest in and continue ongoing professional development in trauma therapy, EMDR therapy, and dissociative disorders. I am an EMDR Certified Therapist with EMDR Canada and EMDRIA
